North central legions mark Remembrance Day in-person and online

Nov 10, 2021 | 6:30 PM

Communities around Prince Albert will also come together to remember those who served and never came home.

Legion branches in several communities will be holding smaller ceremonies either in-person or virtually to mark Remembrance Day.

Leask Legion Branch #79 will have a private service for legion members only at 10:00 a.m. followed by a car parade through the town from 10:30-11:00, ending at the cenotaph. One wreath will be placed at the cenotaph.

The Town of Shellbrook will hold its ceremony at the local cenotaph just before 11:00 a.m.

The legion branch in Shell Lake will hold its Remembrance service at the Lion’s Hall at 10:30 a.m. Masks are required, and social distancing will be in place.

Canwood will also be holding an in-person event outside the legion at 10:45 a.m. That ceremony will also be live-streamed. The Canwood Legion held a march for students in Debden on Wednesday.

The Duck Lake Legion has opted not to hold an in-person service due to COVID-19 concerns. The legion will instead be offering a virtual tribute at 10:50 a.m.

The Birch Hills Legion will not hold a public service this year. The legion though will have a gathering at the Legion Hall for its members. Residents are encouraged to visit the cenotaph and place a poppy there.

The community of Wakaw is also foregoing a ceremony but an Act of Remembrance will still be held at the Legion Cenotaph.
