A 33-year-old man has died after being found unresponsive at the Prince Albert Police Service detention area.

Around 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening, officers found the man in his cell.

He was arrested earlier in the day without incident as he had outstanding warrants for his arrest. He was in the detention area waiting to appear before a provincial court judge.

Paramedics on shift provided emergency medical care, however, he later died at the Victoria Hospital.

His name isn’t being released at this time at the request of his family.

The Saskatchewan Coroners Service and Saskatoon Police Service have launched an investigation into the death with two independent observers also being assigned by the Ministry of Corrections, Policing, and Public Safety.

Meanwhile, he’s the fourth individual to pass away while in custody in P.A. in the past several weeks.

A 29-year-old man died after going into medical distress on Oct. 5 after police investigated a disturbance at the Victoria Hospital.

A 35-year-old man was also found unresponsive on Oct. 11 at the P.A. Police Service detention area, while a 53-year-old man died on Nov. 5 at the Prince Albert Correctional Centre after being found unresponsive in his cell.
