Inmate dies at P.A. Correctional Centre

Nov 5, 2021 | 1:29 PM

A 53-year-old man has died at the Prince Albert Correctional Centre.

Around 6:20 p.m. on Thursday, corrections staff found the inmate unresponsive in his cell.

According to a release, staff said they tried life-saving measures and called EMS, however, the man ended up passing away.

His death is reportedly not the result of COVID-19, while no foul play is suspected at this time.

The P.A. Police Service and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service are currently investigating the incident with the Ministry of Corrections, Policing, and Public Safety also conducting its own internal investigation.

Meanwhile, he’s the third individual to pass away while in custody in P.A. in the past month.

A 29-year-old man allegedly died after going into medical distress on October 5 after police investigated a disturbance at the Victoria Hospital, while a 35-year-old man was found unresponsive on October 11 at the P.A. Police Service detention area.

This story was edited Friday night to correct an error. The word “alleged” should have been “said”. (According to a release, staff said they tried life-saving measures and called EMS.)
