Mintos hold off hungry Hounds in late 3-2 win

Oct 31, 2021 | 4:16 PM

The Prince Albert Mintos may have let a 2-0 lead slip away, but the always dependable Jacob Cossette was able to make up for it in a 3-2 Mintos’ win Sunday at the Art Hauser Centre.

Just 14 seconds after Hounds’ Owen Thomas scored to tie the game at 2-2 and erase the Mintos’ lead, Cossette scored his eighth goal and 21st point of the season to restore the Mintos’ lead at 3-2 with 6:07 remaining.

Cossette is ranked third in both goals and points so far this season in the Saskatchewan U18 AAA Hockey League scoring race.

Nate Misskey and Karson Blanchette both scored in the first for the Mintos. Jayden Kraus made 33 saves on 35 shots for the victory.

Pat Canadians 3 Mintos 1

On Saturday, the Mintos fell 3-1 to the undefeated Regina Pat Canadians. Ashton Tait had the lone goal in the contest for the Mintos, scoring with 6:31 left in the second period on the power play. That made it a 2-1 game as Brayden Barnett had already scored a pair for the Pat C’s.

Harper Lolacher gave Regina some wriggle room in the third by scoring the insurance marker midway through the final frame.

Up next

The Mintos will head to the Battlefords to take on the Stars on Wednesday, and then will play the Tisdale Trojans for a road match up on Saturday.
