Tait, Dallman and McDonald win WHL Cup bronze medal; Mintos split in Swift

Oct 24, 2021 | 4:44 PM

Prince Albert’s Ashton Tait scored the game-winner in the bronze medal game to help secure Team Saskatchewan’s third-place finish at the WHL Cup in Red Deer.

Tait scored on the power play with just 2:51 remaining in the game to give Team Sask a 3-2 win over Team Manitoba to win the bronze medal. It was Tait’s fourth goal and fifth point of the tournament in five games played.

Also on Team Saskatchewan were Prince Albert’s Rod Dallman and current Prince Albert Raider assistant coach Ryan McDonald.

Mintos split in Swift

Without Tait, the Mintos headed to Swift Current for a couple matches with the Broncos. Goals were hard to come by, as the Legionnaires won Saturday’s game 2-1 in a shootout. Mintos’ captain Rhett Ravndahl scored the lone goal for the Mintos in the game, while Ty Shumanski made 44 saves on 45 shots to keep his Mintos in it.

Then on Sunday, the Mintos fell 1-0. Eric Hoiness scored the lone goal for the Legionnaires. Jayden Kraus made 31 saves on 32 shots in the loss.

The Mintos will get back at it on Saturday at the Art Hauser Centre against the Regina Pat Canadians, and then again on Sunday against the Notre Dame Hounds.
