P.A. Legion announces Remembrance Day ceremony to be held at the City Hall courtyard

The Prince Albert branch of the Royal Canadian Legion has announced there will be no Remembrance Day ceremony at the armoury this year but rather a small ceremony held at the City Hall courtyard on Nov. 11.

Rick Hodgson, president of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 2 in Prince Albert told paNOW it will be open to public.

“It’s going to be a fast service again like last year. The laying of the wreaths will be pre-laid except for the two clubs will be laying the wreaths for the veterans,” Hodgson said.

The personal and business wreaths will be laid before the ceremony due to COVID-19 precautions.

Masks will be mandatory and they’re asking the public to arrive by 10:30 a.m. and to bring their own chair. Those is attendance should also practice social distancing.

At 10:55 a.m. the ceremony will begin with the marching in of the colours followed by the last post and a minute of silence. They will then read the honour roll followed by the act of remembrance. The ceremony will end with the closing prayer and the marching off of the colours.

“It’s probably going to be a 10- to 15-minute service and that’ll be it,” Hodgson said.

Hodgson explained the branch will be open after the ceremony for people who would like to stop by to pay their respects to family who fought in the war.

“We had to make sure we had to do something for our veterans and that is because of what they sacrificed for us and we’re making sure the wreaths are getting laid,” he said. “Just hope everyone comes out and supports our poppy campaign as it opens up at the start of November too.”
