Action at Prime Ministers' Park

Marauders and Bears playing at Prime Ministers’ Park

Oct 21, 2021 | 12:00 PM

The St. Mary Marauders are looking to continue their hot start to the season and stay on top of the SSSAD high school football standings when they take on the Tommy Douglas Tigers Thursday night, 6:30 p.m. at Max Clunie Field.

The Marauders are one of five teams in the Saskatoon league to start 4-1 on the season thus far, being tied at the top of the standings. Tommy Douglas has only won one game so far.

Unless the Canadian Tire Classic against the Carlton Crusaders will be rescheduled, this will be the Marauders’ final regular-season game of the schedule.

Da Bears

Very uncharacteristically for them, the Prince Albert Northern Bears are still looking for their first win of their Saskatchewan Female U18 AAA Hockey League season as they prepare for their fifth game.

They’ll take on the Battlefords Sharks Thursday night, 7 p.m. at the Art Hauser Centre.

Slow starts in the standings have been rare for the Bears, especially in recent years. The Bears were 3-1 before last year’s season was cancelled due to COVID-19, and they were a perfect 4-0 the year prior. The Bears haven’t gone winless in their first four games since the 2011-12 season, when they started 0-6.

All four of the Bears’ games so far this season have been on the road. They’ve been held to one goal in two of their games, and two goals in the other games.

Sophia Zuck leads the team in scoring with a goal and three assists. Taylor Leitch, Julia Cey, Erin Kirkland, Kelsey Ledoux, and Jazlyn Petreman have the other goals so far in the young Bears’ season.

After Thursday’s home opener, the Bears will be back on the road in Swift Current to take on the Wildcats Saturday and Sunday.
