Saskatchewan reports record day of COVID-related deaths with 11 more added to total

The province is announcing another record breaking day of COVID-related deaths with 11 reported today.

Also announced today was 327 new confirmed cases of COVID-19; 260 cases among unvaccinated individuals and 87 cases among the 0-11 age category.

Of the new cases, 117 are located in Northern Saskatchewan zones; Far North West (10), Far North East (23), North West (49), North Central (20), North East (15).

In total 73,057 cases have been confirmed since the beginning of the pandemic; 4,423 cases are currently considered active and 67,870 cases are considered recovered.

More than one quarter (26.9 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39.

Almost one quarter (24.6 per cent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 12 years and older) were fully vaccinated.

As of Oct. 13, a total of 337 individuals are hospitalized, including 261 inpatient hospitalizations and 76 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 337 patients, 254 (75.4 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

The new deaths reported today now brings the provincial total to 764 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 have died, with a case fatality rate of one per cent.

NITHA numbers

There are 28 new cases to report today in NITHA communities.

Twenty-two (78 per cent) were unvaccinated, three (11 per cent) are partially vaccinated and three (11 per cent) were fully vaccinated.

There are 258 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), four; Far North West, 48; Far North East, 144; North Central, 52; and North East, 10; 6,148 cases (95 per cent) have recovered, and 10 people are being hospitalized.

Athabasca Health Authority

No new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the Athabasca Health Authority (AHA) on Oct. 12. There are six cases active as of that time with five in Fond Du Lac and one in Black Lake.

As of Oct. 12, AHA is also reporting that 40 per cent of AHA residents have been fully vaccinated and 18 per cent are partially vaccinated.
