Arson suspected following Friday night townhouse fire

A townhouse fire in Prince Albert’s west flat neighbourhood Friday night is being treated as suspicious and has been turned over to police to investigate.

Around 7:30 p.m., the Prince Albert Fire Department was called to the 1100 block of 18th St. W. Crews remained on scene for roughly three hours.

Deputy Chief Alex Paul told paNOW there was extensive damage to the “most westerly unit”, as well as some damage to the next door unit.

“The roof is burnt right off on those two units,” he said. “It’s currently a police matter.”

According to the most crime statistics from the Prince Albert Police Service, there were 31 suspicious fire incidents to the end of August. The majority (11) occurred at a residence or outbuilding. There were also eight garbage/ recycling bin fires; six vehicle fires; and four were listed as other.
