Tapestrama returns with in-person events to please every sense

After a year of being forced to hold a virtual-only event, the Tapestrama Cultural Festival was able to welcome everybody back during Culture Days at Carlton Comprehensive High School.

It only took one moment upon entering the Cafetorium for event-goers to have all of their senses filled.

Various spices were in the air to smell and taste from the Jamaican cookout station, the Mexican cuisine area and the Filipino bakery. There were tons of bright colours to see when looking at the Nigerian and South African clothing items, fabrics to touch at the Chinese craft section, and shiny jewelry to catch one’s eye at the Indian station.

And that’s all before you even notice the stage, which was full for 14 hours Saturday and Sunday with dance troupes, musical acts and other performances representing cultures from around the world — from Indigenous to Chinese to western-style square dancing.

But for those interested that couldn’t attend the in-person event, all the acts were livestreamed on Tapestrama’s Facebook page. Replays of the event are also available.
