Latest COVID update Sept. 25: 492 new cases, 282 in hospital, 4 deaths

More records continued to be set for COVID-19 numbers in Saskatchewan Saturday.

The totals of hospitalizations and ICU patients once again set records, while vaccinations remained above 5,000 for the second day in a row.

The Ministry of Health said there were 282 COVID patients in Saskatchewan hospitals, breaking the province’s record for the seventh straight day. The 63 ICU cases also were an all-time high, exceeding the previous high of 61 set Friday.

Of the 492 new cases reported, Almost one-third (31 per cent) are in the age category of 20 to 39. Just over one in five (22 per cent) of new cases aged 12 and older were fully vaccinated.

Another 5,017 received either a first or second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, a slight decrease from Friday’s 5,066 total.

There also were four more deaths announced, the 21st straight day the province recorded at least one death due to COVID.

A total of 57 people have died as a result of the virus in that span. Since the pandemic started, 667 Saskatchewan residents have died due to COVID.

A look at the numbers

The new cases were reported in the northwest (85), Saskatoon (127), north-central (30), Regina (47), far northwest (28), far north-central (one), southeast (32), south-central (20), southwest (32), central-east (20), far northeast (16), northeast (15) and central-west (11) zones. There also were 28 cases without a definitive hometown.

The seven-day average of new cases stands at 477.

To date, Saskatchewan has reported 64,949 cases.

Active cases climbed to 4,751.

There were 526 recoveries reported, increasing that total so far to 59,531.

According to the province, 225 of the people in hospitals with COVID aren’t fully vaccinated.

Vaccination update

The latest total of vaccinations included 2,897 first doses and 2,120 second doses — the eighth straight day the total of first doses has matched or exceeded the total of second shots.

So far in the province, more than 1.5 million doses of COVID vaccines have been delivered. There are 727,357 people who have received two doses.
