More information on Saskatchewan’s QR code released

About 25,000 people have registered for MySaskHealthRecord accounts over the past two days.

The increase in registrations follows the announcement of an upgrade to Saskatchewan vaccination records and changes to the MySaskHealthRecord registration process.

Davin Church told Gormley on Wednesday that the PIN previously required to complete registration for an account has been removed to allow for easier access to vaccination records.

Church, the vice-president of programs and technology for eHealth, said about 353,000 Saskatchewan residents are now registered for their MySaskHealthRecord account online, accounting for about 30 per cent of the province’s population.

A Saskatchewan.ca account is required to register for the online vaccination record. To register, residents of the province will need their SGI photo ID card and their health services number.

Church said the new QR code is simply an amended piece to the previous vaccination record that has been available in the province since Aug. 5. The code contains the same information as the previous record embedded in it.

To retrieve their QR code, Church said residents can screenshot the code and save it to their phone’s camera roll or somewhere else easily accessible. Residents can also download a PDF to email the code to themselves or print the physical document.

Businesses, events and venues will be able to scan the QR code without an individual having to produce their full record. Using an app that is expected to be released by the end of September, a red or green light will show after a QR code is scanned to signify whether an individual is vaccinated.

The code will not show any of the information listed on an individual’s vaccination record.

“That allows them to do that vaccination check without having to see the information and not store or disclose any of that other information,” Church explained.
