Traffic on 15th Street was free flowing once again this morning after workers completed construction on Monday afternoon.

All lanes for traffic are now open on 15th Street between First Avenue East and Sixth Avenue East, after a two month project where there was limited lanes on the road.

The City of Prince Albert would like motorists to take note of the new slips lanes, which were installed on Fifth Avenue East, outside of Superstore and on Fourth Avenue East, outside the new Peavey Mart.

The slip lanes provide for three dedicated lanes of traffic to each direction without requiring to stop to accommodate a left turn. Motorists should be aware when turning left, they need to shoulder check before merging right into the lane of traffic.

“The slip lanes are new for Prince Albert drivers, so we wanted to make sure drivers take note of the new approach,” Nykol Miller, capital projects manager said in a media release. “They help with the traffic flow by allowing for three uninterrupted east and westbound traffic lanes.

“We are encouraging all residents to get back on 15th Street and use for the daily routes.”

She added the construction was supposed to be completed by the end of August but was pushed back a few weeks due to utility complications.

Prior to the construction being completed, many business owners on the south side of 15th Street voiced their concerns about access to their stores, seeing no breaks in the median and no access from westbound traffic.

A legal U-turn was installed near Second Avenue East, allowing westbound traffic access to businesses on the south side of the street.

Minor lane closures will be required over the course of the next week to allow crews to complete the final project, including line painting and landscaping work.
