New record set in new COVID-19 cases in Saskatchewan

The Government of Saskatchewan reported 543 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, which is the highest total recorded in a single day since the pandemic began.

Out of the new cases, 440 were unvaccinated (81 per cent); 132 of those are ages 11 and under, and are not yet eligible for the vaccine.

In the northern zones, 70 cases were reported in the North Central zone, 64 in the North West, 48 in the North East, 26 in the Far North West and 15 in the Far North East.

One new death was reported, making the total 639.

There are 21 new hospitalizations and 249 patients receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals across the province. There are 4,586 active cases, an increase of 257 from Saturday.

NITHA numbers

There are 18 new cases to report today in Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) communities,12 (67 per cent) were unvaccinated, 2 (11 per cent) are partially vaccinated and four (22 per cent) were fully vaccinated.

There are 378 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 12; Far North West, 55; Far North East, 207; North Central, 67; and North East, 37; 5,205 cases (93 per cent) have recovered, and 12 people are hospitalized.
