Vintage Power Museum to take people back in time as they host a ‘mini’ festival

For those who are looking to take a ride on a steam engine tractor, watch a blacksmith do some work, or check out many antique items head on down to the Vintage Power Museum Mini Threshing Festival this weekend.

The Vintage Power Museum will be hosting its annual threshing festival Saturday, Sept. 18 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The museum is located just 12 kilometers southwest of Prince Albert on Highway Two.

“Usually we would have had a festival last year, and this year in the spring as well,” Alan Andal, museum president told paNOW. “Because of COVID we were shut down for both of those.

“We decided we would run a mini festival this fall.”

The steam engine tractor at the museum has been totally restored and is functional again.

“A person can get up on it and go for a ride,” Andal said.

At the festival there will be a station for people to do some threshing, a blacksmith will also be available, and people will be able to check a few other things out, including the old country store.

“We are going to have our visitor center open as well, and there are quite a few displays there,” Andal said. “We will have a few people there as well to add some comments for any questions.”

Andal added a tractor and wagon will be travelling through the grounds, transporting people who are unable to walk.

Admission to the festival will be free although donations when entering are welcome.

“We haven’t had any income come in over the past few years, as we haven’t received any government grants,” Andal said. “With no income we are hoping that our patronage would be willing to donate. We aren’t expecting much, but any amount helps.”

The first 300 people to attend the festival will receive a $5 gift certificate to Smitty’s restaurant. There will also be a draw for $10 and $50 gift certificates as well.

In the near future, they are looking to build a new canteen at the site.

To raise a few more funds, they also have a 50/50 draw running at the moment. The draw date will be on Dec. 7 at the Prince Albert Legion. Funds from this will go towards construction of the canteen and other repairs and improvements.
