Roughriders lay out details of COVID vaccination policy

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have laid out details of their COVID-19 vaccination policy.

On Aug. 30, the CFL team announced it would require proof of vaccination or proof of a negative test for fans to attend games at Mosaic Stadium. The policy is to take effect with the team’s home game Sept. 17 against the Toronto Argonauts.

On Friday, the Roughriders revealed their plan, which was created with the assistance of the Ministry of Health, the Saskatchewan Health Authority, eHealth Saskatchewan, the City of Regina and Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL).

To get into games at Mosaic Stadium, fans aged 12 and over must be able to prove they have received two doses of Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca vaccines (or a mixture of two) or a single dose of Johnson & Johnson.

The Roughriders said the vaccination record available on eHealth Saskatchewan’s MySaskHealthRecord is the preferred vaccination record to ensure entry.

Fans aged 18 and over will have to present photo ID matching the name on the vaccination record. Those between the ages of 12 and 17 will have to show their vaccine record, but not photo ID. Those under the age of 12 are exempt from the policy.

The Roughriders recommended having a digital copy or screen capture on a smartphone. The “Stick it to COVID” stickers won’t be accepted as proof of vaccination.

Documents including the immunization card received at the time of vaccination, COVID immunization records from public health, Armed Forces records or out-of-province/out-of-country proof of vaccination also will be considered, but the organization said those documents may require extra verification.

In terms of negative COVID tests, a negative PCR test from an SHA testing site or a PCR or rapid antigen test from a certified testing clinic will be needed for unvaccinated people aged 12 and over, or for those who have received just one dose of a COVID vaccine.

The test must be taken within 72 hours of the game, and photo ID matching the name on the negative test will be required for those over the age of 18.

The Roughriders stressed they won’t be storing any personal health information during the verification process, which will occur before fans enter the ticket or bag check line.

To help ease the lineups on game days, gates are to open two hours before kickoff — 30 minutes earlier than normal.

More details are to be announced next week.
