Saskatchewan Roughriders defensive end A.C. Leonard has been suspended for two games by the CFL for failing to provide a sample for drug testing, a requirement under the CFL-CFLPA drug policy.

The 29-year-old product of Palatka, Fla., is slated to miss Saturday’s Banjo Bowl against the host Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Roughriders’ home game Sept. 17 against the Toronto Argonauts.

According to the Roughriders’ depth chart, Pete Robertson is to start in Leonard’s place against the Bombers.

Leonard, one of Saskatchewan’s starting defensive linemen, had eight tackles, three sacks and one interception in four games this season.

In 2019, Leonard played in 17 games with the Roughriders, recording 44 tackles, 10 tackles for losses, nine sacks and three forced fumbles.

The product of Tennessee State University began his CFL career with the B.C. Lions in 2015. He signed with the Roughriders in 2016 and spent two seasons with them before joining the Ottawa Redblacks in 2018. He returned to the Roughriders for the 2019 campaign.

In 77 career regular-season games, Leonard has recorded 168 tackles, 28 sacks, four forced fumbles and an interception.
