Sep 7, 2021 | 3:12 PM

Charges have now been laid in connection to a shooting incident Sunday at James Smith Cree Nation.

Shawn Moostoos, 33 of Melfort, has been charged with two counts of first degree murder, one count of attempted murder, and one count of discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Moostoos remains in custody and will make his first court appearance Wednesday morning in Nipawin.

An emergency alert and subsequent search for Moostoos began Sunday evening after RCMP reported a shooting within the First Nation.

A 37-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, both from James Smith Cree Nation, died as a result of the incident and a 44-year-old man was transported to hospital with what were described as serious but non life-threatening injuries.

The names of the deceased are not being released, but police confirmed Moostoos and the three victims were known to each other.

Moostoos was arrested without incident Monday afternoon at a residence in Melfort.
