Cows on the run

Play it where it lies?

Sep 3, 2021 | 10:35 AM

A small herd of cows caused a bit of a stir Friday morning in Prince Albert.

Wandering into the city from a farm off Highway 302, the cows were observed east of Sask. Polytechnic, before wandering over to Cooke Municipal Golf Course and creating a new hazard for players on the seventh hole. The golf course’s head pro Darcy Myers told paNOW the owner has been contacted and the process is underway to get the cows home.

“Actually one of our maintenance workers first spotted them and called the pro shop and you could just tell in their voice it was a weird situation,” Myers explained.

Myers added they’ve had moose and deer on the course in the past, but never cows. Normally the rule for golf is to play the ball where it lies, but this was obviously an unusual circumstance.

“Golfers had to play through them or around them but it didn’t really impact much,” Myers said.

A spokesperson for the city’s bylaw department said in these types of situations the priority is getting the cows home, and no fines will be applied.
