More COVID pop-up clinics coming to P.A.

Sep 3, 2021 | 10:26 AM

COVID vaccination clinics continue to pop-up around Prince Albert although it’s not clear how successful they have been. Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) can’t provide specific data on the numbers.

The Prince Albert Exhibition Centre hosts another one today from 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

A two-day pop-up clinic wrapped up at the Saskatchewan Polytechnic campus earlier this week but an official said they didn’t get the numbers they’d hoped for.

“Although the uptake wasn’t as high as we were expecting, we’re still happy we were able to get some vaccines into some arms of that student body, in that younger age group,” Paul Ross, the director of primary care for SHA in Prince Albert told paNOW.

He couldn’t say why some people were not taking advantage of the walk-in pop-ups.

“Our SHA colleagues are trying to offer different options to try and make the vaccine process a lot easier for people. Unfortunately, not everybody wants to get the vaccine, so we’re just trying to provide solid information so people can make an informed decision to get the vaccine and protect themselves and their family,” he said.

U of S campus and paEX

Ross said there will also be a pop-up clinic at the University of Saskatchewan’s Central Avenue campus on Sept. 9. followed by more at the paEX, on Sept. 11 and 12.

Ross added there are plans for more options.

South Hill Mall

“There are plans for some upcoming evenings and weekends, and they’ll be advertised …then at the end of September we’re planning to set up at the South Hill Mall to have a standard clinic location, but I can’t say for how long that will run.”

Thursday’s report from the provincial government showed the most daily doses given in Saskatchewan since August 21.

A total of 2,933 doses were reported: 1,185 were a first does while 1,748 received their second shot to become fully vaccinated.
