‘She was loved and she’ll be dearly missed’: family of Crystal Castle devastated by loss

The family of 28-year-old Crystal Castle are mourning their loss after the Prince Albert RCMP found her deceased in a rural area west of St. Louis on Aug. 25.

Castle’s stepfather Omer Prive told paNOW the family is devastated.

“We never expected to lose a child in this matter,” he said.

On Friday, the RCMP said the Major Crimes Unit South is investigating the death as a homicide. Castle had been missing since Aug. 11 when she was last seen just after 3 a.m. in a red Dodge Dakota truck near the Circle K convenience store on 28th Street East.

Prive explained Castle lived in P.A. for just over a year working as a carpenter. However, since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic she was unemployed but driving for a local ride offer service. After growing up in Regina, Castle also lived in Estevan but moved to P.A. to be with her partner.

Her stepfather said she was a very caring person.

“She came from a large family, blended family of 14. She had 10 siblings herself,” he said. “She loved animals too, big heart.”

She enjoyed doing outdoor activities, music and hanging out with friends, he said, and never gave any indication she may have been in trouble.

The funeral will be on Wednesday at Lee’s Funeral Home in Regina and the family has started a gofundme to help pay for funeral expenses. As of the time of publishing they’ve raised $4,510 of their $5,000 goal.

“She was loved, and she’ll be dearly missed and it’s unfair what happened to her,” Prive said.
