Memorial park planned in Indian Head for Mountie killed on duty

The people of Indian Head are paying their respects to an RCMP member who was killed in the line of duty, earlier this summer.

The town is building a new park in memory of Const. Shelby Patton.

He was the officer who was killed while on duty in June. He died in Wolseley but was stationed at the RCMP detachment in Indian Head.

In a news release, the town announced that the Constable Shelby Patton Memorial Park would be built.

In the release, Mari Grobler, Patton’s wife, shared more on what her husband was like.

“Everyday he would come home and tell me stories of all the people he was able to help. That is exactly what he always wanted to do. He never hesitated to help, no matter who, no matter where, no matter what,” she said.

The park will feature a monument for Patton, as well as outdoor exercise equipment, with fitness a passion of his.

“Together, my husband and I shared our knowledge and passion for health and fitness with as many people as we could. Now, in creating this beautiful park the community can come together and enjoy a space dedicated to fitness and Shelby’s legacy,” Grobler continued.

The plot of land picked out for the park is right along the creek that runs through town.

Now, they have a goal of raising $150,000 to help with the cost of construction.

Construction is expected to begin next spring.
