Province reports 216 new cases of COVID-19, 171 false positives removed from count

Another 216 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were confirmed by the provincial government. This brings the total cases in Saskatchewan to 52,845 reported cases; 1,528 cases considered active and 50,725 cases considered recovered

The new cases in Northern Saskatchewan are located in the Far North West (five), Far North Central (one), Far North East (29), North West (19), North Central (21), and North East (13).

About two-fifths (40.7 per cent) of new cases are in the 20 to 39 years age category.

Almost one-sixth (14.4 per cent) of new cases were fully vaccinated.

No new deaths reported today leaving the Saskatchewan deaths of residents with COVID-19 at 592 and the fatality rate at 1.1 per cent.

As per the news from the Ministry of Health and the Saskatchewan Health Authority over the last few days regarding false positives in Regina long-term care centres, 171 false-positive cases were removed from the case counts of all zones.

Another 1,944 vaccines were reported administered in the province today. This brings the provincial total to 1,464,324 and 687,508 residents fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

NITHA Data

There are 230 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities; Far North Central (Athabasca), 19; Far North West, 74; Far North East, 109; North Central, 27; and North East, one.

There are 95 active cases of COVID-19 Variants of Concern (VOCs) in NITHA communities. These cases are located in the Far North Central; five, Far North West, 33; and Far North East, 39; North Central, 18; and North East, 0.

There have been 4,312 cases (96 per cent) that have recovered, and 10 people are being hospitalized.

Athabasca Health Authority

Active cases remain at 14 in the Athabasca Health Authority with two new cases and two recoveries reported for Aug. 24.

This brings the total number of positive cases since June 2021 to 95. There have been 448 positive cases in the region since 2020.

In an afternoon release, the Athabasca Health Authority no longers has an active case in their long-term care unit after the province discovered 171 false positives in Wednesday’s report.
