SHA warns of COVID exposure risk in Pil Country at Riders’ home opener

Aug 14, 2021 | 8:21 AM

The Saskatchewan Health Authority said Friday there was an increased risk of exposure to COVID-19 in Pil Country at the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ home game Aug. 6.

At least one person who was infectious was in the standing section in the south end zone of Mosaic Stadium to watch the Roughriders’ 33-29 CFL victory over the B.C. Lions. The SHA said the risk was greatest between 5:30 p.m., and 11:30 p.m.

“Contact tracing for the August 6 game is ongoing, however as this case was located in the Pil Country end zone, contact tracing is difficult,” the SHA said in a media release. “There is at least one case of an infected individual attending the game in this section.”

The SHA said everyone who was in Pil Country for the game should self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 until Aug. 20, self-isolate immediately and seek testing if symptoms develop, or self-isolate and get a test if they’re already feeling sick or were in contact with a person who was sick while attending the game.

Anyone who develops symptoms is urged to call HealthLine 811, their physician or their nurse practitioner. Symptoms can start to show anywhere from two to 14 days after exposure.

People who are concerned they may have COVID also can use the provincial government’s online self-assessment tool.

The Roughriders’ next home game is Saturday against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
