Summer theatre back at the EA Rawlinson

COVID restrictions are a thing of the past and summer theatre is back at the EA Rawlinson Centre for the Arts in Prince Albert, with ticket sales once again helping to boost a popular community cause.

Broadway North Theatre Company will present “Clue” — based on the Paramount Pictures Motion Picture and the Hasbro board game — from August 20 to 28.

The pandemic means it was the summer of 2019 when patrons last had a chance to embrace a full live theatre experience like this with the very popular Mamma Mia musical. Once again Malcolm Jenkins from Canadian Tire will match ticket proceeds as a donation to the Rose Garden Hospice.

Cara Stelmaschuk with the theatre says the cast is looking forward very much to getting in front of a big crowd again.

“We have a cast of 12, and a big crew because it’s a moving stage with moving pieces,” she told paNOW. “There are scene changes that have to take place in a nice, timely, coordinated way.”

Stelmaschuk said while there is a big buzz around town — and the region — that live shows are coming back and COVID restrictions are well and truly over, it’s important for everyone to remain aware of each others’ needs and comfort levels. She’d like to see some full houses at the theatre, which is 600 people.

“Be kind and respectful. It’s a safe place, it’s a happy place,” she said. “We want people to feel safe coming here and we want them to have a really good night out.”

There are six 7:30 pm performances running August 20, 21, 25, 26, 27 and 28, as well as a 1 p.m. matinee on August 28.

In 2019, Jenkins contributed $75,000 to the hospice as part of his extraordinary community philanthropy and support for the arts.
