Cop charged for unlicensed pistol

Jul 13, 2021 | 2:13 PM

A Saskatchewan RCMP officer has been charged with unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm.

In a media release, the RCMP said Sgt. Rene Giroux, who serves at the Waskesiu detachment, has been charged with one count of unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm.

A management check of the Canadian Firearms Registry earlier this year showed Giroux’s personal firearms license was expired, which meant he could not legally posses the .22 caliber pistol he owned.

The officer willingly surrendered the pistol.
