Man arrested in Debden after pulling gun on police officer

A man, who was on a Canada-wide warrant, has been arrested in Big River after he pulled a gun on a police officer.

According to a media release, at 12:30 p.m. yesterday the Big River RCMP approached a vehicle parked behind a business on Main Street in the town of Debden after they discovered it was reported stolen. The officer approached the man beside the vehicle and talked to him before the man pulled out a gun and fled on foot.

Multiple RCMP detachments were involved in the search of the man including Shellbrook, Big River, Spiritwood, Saskatchewan RCMP Police Dog Service, Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment Conservation Officers and Saskatchewan Highway Patrol Officers. Debden Public High School also went into secure-and-hold protocol during this incident as a safety precaution.

Three hours after the incident, police arrested Kyle Standing from Wahpeton First Nation in a private yard in Debden. He has been charged with one count of assault on a police officer with a weapon, three counts of resisting/obstructing a peace officer, one count of carrying a concealed weapon, one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and one count of posession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
