Summer sports in Prince Albert have officially returned.

Baseball and softball began playing competitive games last night with games in both leagues being a success.

“Everything has been going over very well,” Duane Krip, President of the Prince Albert Minor Baseball Association said to paNOW. “We had large attendance within the parameters of what we can have at the games. All the parents were happy to be outside and getting active again.”

The 13U teams play on Monday and Wednesday evenings.

The 11U teams play on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Melfort is in town tomorrow evening to take on the 15U team at the Andy Zwack field.

The 18U team will play two separate double headers this weekend. On Saturday, June 5 they will play Unity at 1:00 p.m. and 4 p.m. On Sunday, June 6 they will take on Lloydminster at 11:00 a.m. and 2 p.m. with these games being played at the Andy Zwack field.

The Prince Albert Minor Baseball Association is appreciative of the local fan support.

“The local fan support is always great,” Krip said. “It’s nice that we’re able to have up to 150 people at the diamond.”

Krip also reported that registration was up this year.

“This year there was a resurgence of registrations. Our numbers are at an all time high.”

President of Prince Albert Minor Softball, Trevor Gunville said things went well with their return to play as well.

“People were excited to be back at the park, back out playing, and socializing with people,” Gunville said.

Local support means a lot to the softball association. Due to it being the first games last night, there wasn’t too many fans at the games. They are hoping more people will come out in the future.

“I’m sure they’ll come as summer progresses now that we are back in full swing,” Gunville said. “We have a family friendly facility.”

The facility they play at is the Lakeland Ford park on Highway 55.
