Entertainment industry in P.A gearing up for more guests

With Step Two of the COVID-19 protocols in Saskatchewan being put into June 20th, museums and theatres will then be allowed to bring in 150 guests through their doors at a time.

That’s something the entertainment industry in Prince Albert is looking forward to.

The Mann Art Gallery currently has a show that runs until May 29th but will be extending it a week. Their next show is called A Path or Gap Among the Trees by Jason Baerg, a local to Prince Albert, and will be scheduled to begin on June 11th to August 21st, but it may be delayed. The art gallery is not planning on doing an opening reception for the show due to COVID protocols but is hopefully planning on doing a closing reception instead.

Marcus Miller, the director at the art gallery is hopeful that people will continue to social distance in the gallery.

“I think everyone will continue to be safe, especially early in the summer,” Miller said. “Art galleries are fairly sparse places, you don’t normally see a lot of crowds. It’s a very safe place to be.”

The EA Rawlinson Centre for the Arts is another one of the entertainment centers that will be hoping to welcome many guests this summer.

Starting June 9th the Rawlinson Centre is planning a ‘Drive-in Series’ of shows in their parking lot which will happen every second Wednesday.

The Rawlinson Centre will be looking forward to the increase of people for indoor shows, explained events coordinator Cara Stelmaschuk.

“Even when there will be 150 people that will be so much better,” Stelmaschuk said. “We want to be back to 600 but that is not safe now.”

The Broadway North Theatre Company will be hosting a show at the EA Rawlinson from August 20-28 putting on the show Clue.

“It is based on the movie, which is based on the board game by Hasbro,” Stelmaschuk said. “It’s a really funny show.

“That will be happening in our building this summer and 150 people for that show will be huge and will make a big difference for our ability to do the show.”

Off the Cuff Improv is one more company in Prince Albert that is looking forward to more people coming to their shows. Off the Cuff currently has about 15 people attending their shows and will be moving up to about 30 people while still social distancing.

With the new announcement, Off the Cuff will be offering food and beverages at their shows.
