Parkland Ambulance reports busy long weekend

A pair of motor vehicle crashes, and an incident involving a young boy being hit by a vehicle, were among the more serious incidents Parkland Ambulance Paramedics were called to over the May long weekend.

For the period ending Sunday at 7p.m., there were a total of 129 incidents.

At approximately 4a.m. Saturday, paramedics responded to the Sturgeon Lake Reserve for a motor vehicle collision. A 21-year-old woman was transported to hospital in good and stable condition.

At 8:10a.m. Sunday, paramedics responded to a motor vehicle collision on highway 263 near Christopher Lake. There were no injuries reported.

Later Sunday afternoon, around 4:30p.m., paramedics responded to a vehicle vs pedestrian incident at sixth Ave. E. and Branion Drive. An eight-year-old boy was taken to hospital in good and stable condition.

Over the weekends, paramedics also responded to several pedal bicycle incidents.

One involved a 20-year-old-man at the skate board park, and the other was a six- year-old boy in the west flat area.

Both incidents were considered minor in nature, but according to a media release, illustrated the importance of having proper safety equipment, especially a helmet.
