Provincial, federal fire maps show Cloverdale wildfire near P.A. as ‘contained’

May 20, 2021 | 9:19 AM

After a battle that has gone on since Monday afternoon, the wildfire northeast of Prince Albert has been declared “contained.”

That’s according to both the federal active fire map from Natural Resources Canada and the provincial active fire map. Late Wednesday, the blaze coined the Cloverdale wildfire was reported as 65 per cent contained.

On Wednesday, SaskPower crews were cleared to enter the area to start the restoration of power to around 8,000 homes north of the city. The power initially went out in areas as far north as Stanley Mission Monday.

SaskPower said it expects to have all power restored by 2 p.m. Thursday.

The City of Prince Albert has registered 75 evacuated households due to this blaze.

To date, no homes have been destroyed by the fire and the pulp mill was left unscathed.

According to the provincial wildfire map, the Cloverdale Fire is one of three wildfires currently burning in the province. Two of those are uncontained, including a 1,300-hectare fire near Fort à la Corne.
