Schneider off to World Championships, Pachal recalled

May 12, 2021 | 12:00 PM

The hockey season will just not end for Prince Albert’s Braden Schneider, and that’s fine with him.

According to TSN’s Hockey Insider Darren Dreger, Schneider will represent Team Canada at the 2021 IIHF World Championships in Riga, Latvia from May 21 to June 6.

Schneider will be one of at least three players on Team Canada that are non-NHL class.

Before playing in the World Championships, Schneider has already won the WHL East Division title with the Brandon Wheat Kings, scoring 27 points in 22 games. He also won a silver medal with Canada at the World Juniors.

Before all that, Schneider was drafted in the first round by the New York Rangers, and played two games with their AHL-affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack.

Ex-Raider captain moves on up

The Vegas Golden Knights announced on Tuesday evening former Raider captain Brayden Pachal was recalled from the team’s AHL affiliate, the Henderson Silver Knights.

The Golden Knights have been ravaged by injuries. For their last game, the Golden Knights played three players short with just 10 forwards and five defencemen.

Pachal was called up, along with forward Dylan Sikura, to help make up the numbers.

Pachal has played 22 games this year with the Henderson Silver Knights, scoring a goal and adding four assists. The Golden Knights’ final game of the regular season is Wednesday at 7 p.m. against the San Jose Sharks.

Pachal captained the Raiders to the 2019 WHL Ed Chynoweth Cup.
