A doctor in Hawkesbury, Ont., who was charged with murder also spent time at the University of Saskatchewan as a medical resident specializing in general internal medicine.

According to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario website, 35-year-old Dr. Brian Jacob Nadler was charged with one count of first-degree murder on Friday. His licence has been active since February of 2020, his specialty is in internal medicine, and he graduated from McGill University in 2010.

According to an email to 650 CKOM and records from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan (CPSS), a Dr. Brian Jacob Nadler who also graduated from McGill University in 2010 began his residency in Saskatchewan at the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Medicine in July of 2014 and continued until his resignation in October of 2016.

During that time, according to CPSS records, he was disciplined twice for two separate incidents that occurred on the night of Aug. 19-20, 2014.

The records show Nadler was found guilty of unbecoming, improper, unprofessional, or discreditable conduct after altering a patient’s medical record at St. Paul’s Hospital.

He was also found guilty of the same offence(s) after an argument with a female attending physician, whom he later called a “bitch” in a discussion with another senior resident. He also told the same resident during the discussion he felt like he was being attacked and “felt like slapping her.”

Both matters were resolved when Nadler agreed to take courses in professional ethics and medical record-keeping.

Nadler then went on to a fellowship in geriatric medicine in Nevada, where his licence is listed as currently active, but expires on June 30, according to the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiner’s webpage.

A news release from the Ontario Provincial Police has identified the alleged victim as 89-year-old Albert Poidinger from Pointe-Claire, Que.

Nadler is being held in custody and will make his next court appearance on April 6. The OPP is also looking into what it’s calling other “recent suspicious deaths” at Hawkesbury General Hospital.
