Cumberland Crossing Inn, the new reincarnation of the downtown Quality Inn, will open Monday.

The announcement from the building’s new owners comes just days after they finalized the $900,000 sale of the property.

In a media release, Saskatchewan River Business Corporation and Timanaska Development Corporation said they were pleased to announce their partnership in the purchase.

Saskatchewan River Business Corporation is an economic development arm of Cumberland Houses Cree Nation. Timanaska Development Corporation is an Indigenous-owned company with offices in Prince Albert.

“Cumberland House Cree Nation is excited to be apart of this joint venture with Timanaska Development Corporation,” Cumberland House Cree Nation Chief Rene Chaboyer said in the release. “Purchasing the former Quality Inn Hotel will contribute greatly to the economic development of our nation, encouraging growth and prosperity for the future of our community.”

The Cumberland Crossing Inn’s website lists student housing, medical accommodations, a full-service restaurant, and a 24-hour daycare among future plans for the building, although it notes some of these “primary uses” are currently unavailable because of the pandemic.

Orrin Greyeyes, President and CEO of Timanaska Development Corp., said there’s a large demand for student housing and medical accommodation in Prince Albert.

“We are thrilled to be working with the Saskatchewan River Business Corporation to bring this vision to fruition and to also bring this building back to life,” Greyeyes said. “Our team has been working tirelessly to prepare for Cumberland Crossing Inn’s doors to open and we will continue working to ensure this building is used to it’s full potential.”

A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place Monday at 12 p.m. Provincial health guidelines will be adhered to.
