No standing in line at Winter Festival Fish Fry

Feb 20, 2021 | 3:06 PM

One local senior by the name of Terry has been coming to the Prince Albert Winter Festivals since he was a little kid. But he’s rarely come to the fish fry in the past for one specific line.

“I hate standing in line,” Terry said.

But on Saturday, that was not at all an issue. This year’s Winter Festival Fish Fry was converted to a drive-thru at the Exhibition Centre, so nobody had to wait in line.

Terry was one of the first customers of the weekend as he beat the lunch rush from the comfort of his own vehicle. He said he was happy to continue to support the festival from the comfort of his own vehicle and his own home.

The fish fry started to sizzle Saturday at 11 a.m. and will keep on crisping until 7 p.m. at the Exhibition Centre. It will also take care of lunch on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Even though this is the first drive-thru fish fry, it was still a well-organized operation. Volunteers walked through the line of cars to take everybody’s order, accept payment and give each customer a small receipt of what they ordered.

Then, when customers head to the take-out window, they give the receipt to another volunteer, who fetches the order.

The fish fry menu includes a fish and chips platter for $15 (includes a pop and coleslaw), just fish and chips for $12, chicken fingers and fries for $10, and a plate of fries for $5.
