Northern Saskatchewan’s premiere community art show kicks off tomorrow at the Mann Art Gallery.

The Annual Winter Festival Art Show and Sale – now in its 45th year – features work from professional and amateur artists from across the province.

The show’s guest curator, Swift Current sculptor Heather Benning told paNOW there were less submissions this year than in the past, but with 93 pieces from an equal number of artists, the show does not lack content or quality.

“There was a lot of really well put together, very thoughtfully made work,” Benning said. “I was really impressed with the caliber.”

She noted the hardest part of her job in curating the show was assigning the awards, which will be presented Friday night as part of a virtual reception live streamed on Facebook. That event starts at 7 p.m.

A curator walk through and talk is scheduled for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., also on Facebook Live.

The show will be open to the public during regular gallery hours starting Saturday at 1 p.m. until March 27.

Marcus Miller, Mann Art Gallery curator/director said the show came together beautifully, despite pandemic-related challenges and the fact the gallery is unable to host an in-person reception and awards night.

“It just turned out to be this lovely, lovely show, I’m just smitten with it,” he said.
