MELFORT, Sask. – The Western Livestock Price Insurance Program (WLPIP) has a new name, but the services will remain the same.

The name change to Livestock Price Insurance (LPI) is part of the program’s strategy to strengthen its promotion capabilities while adhering to the latest Canadian Agriculture Partnership guidelines.

The rebrand includes an updated logo and new look for the program website.

Producers continue to access coverage through LPI. In 2020, approximately 360,000 calves, 209,000 feeder cattle, 232,000 fed cattle and 9,300 hogs were insured in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. Producers received over $122 million in payouts.

Agriculture in the Classroom Canada (AITC-C) along with its ten provincial member organizations has set up an advisory committee.

AITC-C executive director Joanne Ross said the group will support efforts to build its profile, enhance communications, and build fundraising strategies.

“We have been lucky to appoint seven highly knowledgeable professionals with a wealth of experience from the sector. We are excited to see how they will help guide our organization to greatness,” Ross said in a media release.

Agassou Jones, Becky Parker, Kelly Green, Lindsey Verhaeghe, Nadine Sisk, Teresa Vallotton and Trish Jordan will serve a two-year term on the advisory committee and meet at least twice a year.

Saputo Inc. reported a third-quarter profit of $209.8 million, up by $12 million in the same quarter a year earlier, even as its revenue edged lower.

The cheese and dairy company said the profit amounted to 51 cents per diluted share for the quarter ended Dec. 31, up from a profit of 48 cents per diluted share a year earlier.

The company said overall sales volumes reached similar levels compared with the same period a year ago as increased volumes in the retail and industrial market segments offset lower volumes on the food service side of the business.
