Members of the Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division are so happy with how their partnership with the Global Sports Academy went, there are plans are underway to expand the program to include golf.

“We’re looking to expand to golf because we know Prince Albert and area and other schools in our division, there’s some passionate golfers,” Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division Superintendent Cory Trann said. “We have some ability to work with local folks to provide that skill set, and that’s also going to line up with our leadership skills with Global.”

Currently, the program is developing high school hockey players with on-ice skill sessions and an in-class curriculum covering leadership, career education, and physical wellness out of Carlton Comprehensive Public High School.

In addition, the school division is looking to expand the program to add Grades 7 and 8 to the hockey program.

Trann said members of the school division are happy with how the program ran in the past year and are excited to expand the program.

“We had some great success this year with our young athletes and student-athletes that are in the hockey program, currently,” Trann said.

The addition of golf and Grades 7 to 8 to the hockey program are expected to go into effect at the start of the 2021-22 school year. Trann said they are working to finalize some details with the Global Sports Academy later this month, and will have some official details to share with interested parents after those meetings.
