Dec 22, 2020 | 10:32 AM

Editor’s note: This story was updated at 11a.m. Monday following new information from RCMP.

RCMP have confirmed a man and a young boy were killed when their car collided head-on with a truck, west of Prince Albert Monday evening.

Emergency services were dispatched to the scene on Highway 3 shortly after 5:30 p.m.

The preliminary investigation indicates the collision occurred after the eastbound car pulled into the westbound lane. The 30-year-old man from Prince Albert, and the four-year-old boy from Parkside, were both declared deceased by EMS at the scene. The RCMP will not be releasing their names.

The westbound truck had two occupants, a 34-year-old woman, and a three-year-old girl, both from the Shellbrook area. They were both taken to hospital with what were reported to be non life-threatening injuries.

Highway 3 between Cedar Avenue and 15th Street Northwest was shut down and traffic was re-routed for several hours as the investigation was conducted and the scene cleared.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, however RCMP said alcohol is not considered a factor and indicated road conditions were not favourable at the time due to ice and blowing snow.
