The CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders released Regina-born defensive tackle Zack Evans on Friday.

The 30-year-old product of the PFC’s Regina Thunder initially signed with the Roughriders in 2012 as a territorial exemption. He played 16 games for the Roughriders over the next two seasons, winning a Grey Cup title with them in 2013.

The Ottawa Redblacks selected Evans in the expansion draft in the winter of 2013, and he played 70 regular-season games with Ottawa over four seasons. He won his second Grey Cup ring with the Redblacks in 2016.

After signing as a free agent with the Roughriders in February of 2018, Evans recorded 19 tackles and two sacks in 29 regular-season games over two seasons. He had four tackles and one sack in 11 games in 2019.

Over his 115 career regular-season games, Evans has 101 tackles, 24 sacks, an interception, a forced fumble and two touchdowns.

“We want to thank Zack for all his efforts while he played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders,” Jeremy O’Day, Saskatchewan’s vice-president of football operations and general manager, said in a media release. “Not only did he represent the Green and White with pride on the field, but he also went above and beyond to give back to the province he grew up in.

“We wish him all the best going forward.”
