P.A. police officers recognized for efforts to stop impaired drivers

Two Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) officers received recognition last week for their efforts to stop impaired driving.

Const. Rob Lindsay and Const. Nicholas Danyliuk received the Van de Vorst Family Award for Excellence in Prevention from MADD Canada.

Karen Anthony-Burns from MADD Prince Albert presented Lindsay with his award, while Danyliuk, who has since joined Regina Police Service, participated online.

The award is in memory of Jordan and Chanda Van de Vorst and their two children Kamryn and Miguire who lost their lives to impaired driving.

Prince Albert statistics show impaired driving continues to be a concern. There have been 129 charges for impaired driving from the beginning of the year to the end of November. That number is up from 116 in 2019.

Both officers were congratulated by Prince Albert Police Chief Jonathan Bergen, who noted impaired investigations can be time-consuming and difficult to investigate amidst all the other calls officers receive on shift.

“Impaired driving is one of the number one causes of criminal deaths across the country and it’s so preventable,” Bergen said. “It’s really good to see that police officers are doing everything they can do to make sure that they’re enforcing the law and making the streets as safe as they can.”

Both officers received a special coin and a certificate of recognition on behalf of MADD and SGI for their efforts.
