BASF Agricultural Solutions has received PMRA registration for the active ingredient Topramezone.

The first Group 27 herbicide approved for pre-seed use in canola, Topramezone is the AI found in Certitude, a new pre-seed herbicide. BASF said in a media release it will provide kochia and volunteer canola control in canola crops in starting in the 2021 growing season.

BASF also received PMRA registration for Smoulder, which contains the active ingredients Saflufenacil and Metsulfuron-methyl. This is a new pre-seed treatment for wheat and barley. It will provide growers with both residual control of volunteer canola and will be available for the 2022 season.

U.S. President elect Joe Biden has chosen Tom Vilsack to be his Secretary of Agriculture.

This will be Vilsack’s second time around in this role. He spent all eight years of the Obama administration in the post.

Vilsack is considered an asset with an already established relationship with farm groups.
