Men of the North distribute hundreds of food vouchers
Food vouchers handed out by Men of the North have helped close to 1,600 residents of northern Saskatchewan so far this year.
In total, approximately 400 food vouchers worth $75 each have been distributed since July through a Breakfast Club of Canada grant. In October, 200 food vouchers were handed out to assist 905 residents in nine northern Saskatchewan communities. The additional 200 vouchers were delivered back in July and assisted 667 northerners.
“It hit home because I see a lot of community members who needed that extra help in the middle of the month,” Men of the North volunteer Braeden Sanderson said. “Nobody was helping them because money is tight everywhere. It saved a lot of young kids who were going hungry with their families.”
Sanderson explained he is still receiving calls for residents looking to get a food voucher. He said the vouchers were purchase orders made out to La Ronge’s three main grocery stores or to a local store in the applicant’s community.
