Oct 28, 2020 | 8:55 AM

The Prince Albert Catholic School Division is letting the public know about a positive COVID-19 case in an individual at Ecole St. Mary High School.

In a media release, director of education Lorel Trumier, said on Tuesday evening officials from the Saskatchewan Health Authority identified the positive case.

Communication of a possible exposure has been shared with two specific classroom/cohorts, as well as the school community. The Saskatchewan Health Authority is proceeding with their assessment of the situation, and all individuals deemed to be close contacts will be communicated with.

Ecole St. Mary High School will resume classes today October 28, 2020 for all students and staff, according to Trumier. We received notification that an individual in our school has tested positive for COVID-19 and that this individual was present on October 16th, therefore Public Health officials are advising all students and staff to monitor for COVID-19 symptoms daily and not to enter the school if ill.

Due to the safety protocols that are in place, this case is deemed to be a potential exposure and is of low risk. To protect privacy, we are not able to share or discuss details.

The two classrooms impacted by this case, barring any other cases, are required to monitor for symptoms until October 30th, 2020 and are being advised to contact 811Healthline for advice. The students and families of Ecole St. Mary will be receive any updates using the Edsby Portal.

Our thoughts and prayers are with this member of our school community, and we hope they are doing well. We all have a shared responsibility to decrease the risk of COVID-19 entering schools.

Thank you to everyone for continuing to be diligent in performing daily health screening, staying home if ill, calling HealthLine 811 if exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms, practicing proper hand hygiene, maintaining physical distancing as much as possible, wearing a mask when appropriate, and doing everything we can to keep each other safe.
