Father of two among two people killed in weekend crashes

Saskatchewan RCMP are providing some new information in relation to a pair of fatal crashes last Saturday morning.

The first crash happened on the Little Red River Reserve at 5:15 a.m.

Parkland Ambulance reported one person was found dead and a 24-year-old women was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

RCMP have now confirmed a 32- year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene. The truck they were in collided with a guard rail on the north side grid bridge.

Roughly six hours later a truck was involved in a crash on Highway 120 near Candle Lake and Minowukaw Beach.

RCMP told paNOW a 37-year-old man, a passenger, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver and a second passenger, both 35, were taken to hospital. One was taken to Victoria Hospital in good condition but the other was taken to Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon in serious but stable condition.

The causes of both crashes remain under investigation.

The names of the deceased have not been released but paNOW has learned Jason Altenberg was the man killed in the crash near Candle Lake and a graveside service has been planned for Saturday morning at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens

According to an obituary posted to paNOW, Altenberg leaves behind a wife and two daughters.

Altenberg worked as an aboriginal program officer at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary, and the flag outside the administration building has been temporarily lowered to half mast in memory of him.
