Drive-by shooting suspects make first court appearance

A man and woman, charged in connection to Sunday’s drive-by shooting in Prince Albert, are facing a combined total of 42 charges.

D.J. Royden Montgrand, 20, and Matilda Keenatch-Yellowhead, 18, appeared Tuesday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court. Both were wearing white track suits provided by the Prince Albert Police Service, as the clothes they were wearing at the time of the incident have been confiscated as evidence.

Around 6:20 p.m. Sunday evening, police were dispatched to an area near Carlton Court Plaza for a complaint that a man had been shot and the suspects had fled the scene in a vehicle. A 31-year-old man was transported to hospital in Saskatoon.

Shortly after, police were alerted to a complaint about erratic driving involving the same vehicle. The suspect vehicle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed near 15th Ave. and fourth St. E, where it collided with a vehicle and then a fence.

The suspects then fled on foot but were arrested shortly thereafter.

The charges laid include possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, flight from police, resisting arrest, various weapons related offences, and attempted murder.

Both of the accused are scheduled to be back in court Wednesday for a possible bail hearing.
