CN Rail plans to purchase more grain hopper cars next year.

CN said 1,500 new generation, high-capacity cars will be added to its fleet.

CEO JJ Ruest said along with the 2020 $2.9 billion capital investment program CN will help move more grain than before.

“We are confident in the future of the grain business and its key role in CN’s long-term growth,” Ruest said in a news release. “By investing in the construction of these new cars, we want to help quickly stimulate the North American economy by supporting the manufacturing and agriculture-related jobs.”

CN reported a loss of 19 per cent for the second quarter of 2020 over 2019 numbers, due to decreased trade because of the COVID-19 economic shut down.

Ruest said over the same time period, the railway company moved a record amount of grain.

STARS Air Ambulance is continuing its important work even through the pandemic.

Like many other organizations, STARS fundraising events have been postponed or cancelled.

But the Field of Stars concert featuring The Washboard Union at the end of the first day of the virtual Ag In Motion Discovery Plus went ahead.

The concert also featured testimonials from patients from Ontario to Alberta who shared their own experience how STARS save their lives.

The final total raised during last night’s fundraising auction and concert was $180,000.
