The City of Prince Albert is going to be doing work to make some school zones safer.

In a media release sent out Thursday afternoon Mayor Greg Dionne said the money the city is getting from SGI through the Traffic Safety Fund Grant would go towards installing elevated crosswalks and variable speed signs. In total P.A. is getting just over $43,000.

“The Traffic Safety Fund grant is designed to improve safety for the children of our community. I sincerely appreciate that the Committee has allocated this important funding to Prince Albert,” Dionne said.

P.A. Carlton MLA and Minister responsible for SGI Joe Hargrave said the provincial government is committed to overall road safety.

“We all play an important role in keeping Saskatchewan safe. Increasing safety measures in school zones will better protect our children, which is the goal of this program,” he said.

Both the mayor and MLA stressed that while kids are not in school it is still important for drivers to be careful when driving around schools as many kids still play in and around schools.

“When you are driving through school zones please remember to always stay focused, exercise caution, slow down and watch for children,” they said.
