Five new cases of COVID-19 reported, Saskatoon outbreak declared over

With the outbreak in Saskatoon declared over, there are five new cases of COVID-19 in the province bringing the total to 751.

Four of those cases are in the province’s Far North region and one is in the Saskatoon region.

Of the reported cases, 95 remain active. A total of 643 have recovered.

Three people are receiving inpatient care, with two in the South region and one in Saskatoon. There are no patients in the intensive care unit.

Of all 751 cases, 157 are travellers, 452 are community contacts (including mass gatherings), 98 have no known exposures and 44 are under investigation by local public health.

In Saskatchewan 53 cases are health care workers (although not all may have sourced their infections at work), 305 are from the Far North, 186 are from the Saskatoon area, 113 are from the North, 80 are from the Regina area, 53 are from the South and 12 are from the central region.

There are 109 cases involving people aged 19 and younger. The remainder are adults.

There are 259 cases in the 20 to 39 age range, 237 in the 40 to 59 age range, 125 in the 60 to 79 age range, and 21 in the 80-plus age range.

Fifty-one per cent of cases are females and 49 per cent are males.

Thirteen deaths related to the virus have been reported to date.

To date, 60,780 COVID-19 tests have been performed in Saskatchewan. Testing is also available to those returning to work, those admitted to acute care (including expectant mothers), those who are immunocompromised and their caregivers.

Saskatoon Outbreak

The Saskatchewan Health Authority has declared an end to the outbreak in Saskatoon. The outbreak was initially declared on May 27 after several cases were connected to two large family gatherings in early May.
