Province reports 15 new cases of COVID-19, new outbreak declared

There are 15 new cases of COVID-19 in the province, bringing the total to 708.

Fourteen of those cases are in the province’s South region.

The new cases are connected to a new outbreak declared by the Saskatchewan Health Authority. The outbreak is in two Hutterite communities in the Rural Municipality of Maple Creek. Two members of a rural household in the area tested positive for the virus last week. Contact tracing is underway.

Cases are also being investigated for connection to interprovincial travel between Alberta and the area, along with travel in the area. The remaining new cases is in the province’s Far North region.

Of the reported cases, 59 remain active. A total of 636 have recovered.

One person is receiving inpatient care in Saskatoon. There is one person in intensive care in Saskatoon.

Of all 708 cases, 148 are travellers, 418 are community contacts (including mass gatherings), 90 have no known exposures and 52 are under investigation by local public health.

In Saskatchewan 53 cases are health care workers (although not all may have sourced their infections at work), 285 are from the Far North, 184 are from the Saskatoon area, 112 are from the North, 80 are from the Regina area, 33 are from the South and 12 are from the central region.

There are 105 cases involving people aged 19 and younger. The remainder are adults.

There are 246 cases in the 20 to 39 age range, 217 in the 40 to 59 age range, 119 in the 60 to 79 age range, and 21 in the 80-plus age range.

Fifty-one per cent of cases are females and 49 per cent are males.

Thirteen deaths related to the virus have been reported to date.

To date, 57,836 COVID-19 tests have been performed in Saskatchewan. Testing is also available to those returning to work, those admitted to acute care (including expectant mothers), those who are immunocompromised and their caregivers.
